30,000+ fans to welcome kick off of first Cathay Pacific / HSBC Hong Kong Sevens since 2019

[27 October 2022, Hong Kong]: The Hong Kong Rugby Union today announced the latest ticket sales and attendance figures one week out from the 2022 Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens (4-6 Nov.), confirming that over 30,000 fans will be on hand to welcome the kick-off of the first Hong Kong Sevens since 2019.

This year’s theme is “Our HK7s” given the event’s focus on domestic audience in light of global travel restrictions. The tournament is delivering on that promise with more than 25,000 tickets purchased locally.

Nearly 8,500 of those tickets were snapped up in the last month alone with sales increasing as the reduction in quarantine and approval of food sales were confirmed. This adds to the 16,500 tickets purchased in the pre-sales period to Hong Kong’s rugby core: local clubs and stakeholders.

1,500 tickets remain for sale in the public ballot via the ticketing platform and will be sold while supplies last, including across the event weekend as necessary.

In addition, the Sevens will welcome over 6,000 schoolkids recruited with the help of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department from schools across the territory on Friday, 4 November.

The expected 30,000 plus fans on Friday will welcome the return of the first Hong Kong Sevens since the onset of the pandemic, and are within the venue’s reduced capacity limit of 85% (approximately 34,000) due to local health and safety measures.

The Hong Kong Rugby Union is also hosting over 1,000 members of local NGOs and charity groups on Saturday and Sunday, including the partners and beneficiaries of the HKRU Community Foundation.

HKRU Chief Executive Robbie McRobbie was thankful for the overwhelming support from the Hong Kong market.

“We are thrilled to have 25,000 paid spectators for what is the first mass-event in Hong Kong since the pandemic, and are hopeful of selling out the remaining few tickets by kick-off.

“With music, food and drink, and some of the fastest rugby on earth in store, it seems that Hong Kong is ready for the Sevens to return, and we are most definitely ready to bring it back,” he said.

Mr McRobbie addressed the impact of the lingering travel uncertainty on the event’s international demand saying, “The welcome relaxation in local quarantine policies does seem to have come a bit late for our primary overseas audience, typically long haul visitors from the UK, Australia, New Zealand and North America, at least for November. “We are however very encouraged by the amount of messages we are receiving from long-time visitors and overseas travel partners about returning in April,” said Mr McRobbie.

“For now, we are fully embracing November as a chance to show the world once again that the Hong Kong Sevens is up and running, and to offer an important opportunity for our community in Hong Kong to reunite for a bit of stress relief and enjoyment,” said McRobbie.

[2022年10月27日，香港]: 「國泰航空/滙豐香港國際七人欖球賽」 尚有一週便正式開鑼，香港欖球總會（欖總）今日公佈最新門票銷售數字和預計入場人數，確定將有逾30,000 名球迷入場參與自2019年以來的首個「香港國際七人欖球賽」。

因應全球旅遊限制，今屆賽事需聚焦本地市場，並以「我們的七欖」為主題。賽事至今已在本港售出逾25,000張門票。

隨著入境隔離限制防寬，以及場內進食已獲批准，公眾門票由發售至今已售出近8,500張門票。連同早前預售期向本地欖球會和持分者的核心群體售出的16,500張門票，可見賽事魅力不減。

尚餘的1,500張公眾門票將繼續透過售票平台發售直至售罄為止，銷售期有必要時會延長至賽事週末。

此外，「七欖」將於11月4日（星期五）招待經康樂及文化事務署協助下，從全港學校招募的6,000多名學童入場。

因應本地健康及安全考量因素，球場容納人數減至85% (約34,000人) 。預計週五將有逾30,000名球迷入場見証自疫情大流行以來的首個「香港國際七人欖球賽」開鑼。

欖總亦將於週六及週日招待逾1,000名本地非牟利機構和慈善團體人士，包括欖總社區基金的合作夥伴和受惠者。

欖總行政總裁麥偉彬（Robbie McRobbie）先生感謝本地市場的龐大支持：「我們很高興獲得25,000名觀眾真金白銀支持自疫情爆發以來的首個本地大型活動，希望能在開賽前售出全部門票。」

「隨著音樂、美食和飲品，以及世界級最節奏明快的欖球競技現已俱備，香港似乎已經準備好迎接『七欖』回歸，我們亦已準備就緒，迎接賽事的一切。」

麥偉彬認為旅遊不確定性對賽事的海外市場需求有一定的影響，他說：「對於11月的賽事來說，放寬入境隔離的政策對我們的主要海外球迷，尤其是來自英國、澳洲、新西蘭和北美洲的長途旅客而言是遲來的消息。然而，我們仍收到很多長期支持者和海外旅遊夥伴說約定明年4月再見的訊息，這讓我們感到非常鼓舞。」

他續說：「如今，我們會在11月好好把握向全球展示『香港國際七人欖球賽』重回正軌，並且為香港社會提供一個重要的機會，讓大家可以聚首一堂，紓緩壓力和享受『七欖』帶來的歡樂。」
