[Hong Kong, 27 February 2025]: Ticketholders of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens 2025 will not only enjoy a literal once-in-a-lifetime experience of watching the first ever Hong Kong Sevens at the new Kai Tak Stadium from 28-30 March 2025, they can also experience the transformation of Kai Tak Sports Park’s East Village area into a brand-new Fan Village.

As if over 70 world-class rugby sevens matches, and live musical performances from the Kaiser Chiefs, DJ Pete Tong, GALA and more inside Hong Kong’s state-of-the-art new stadium wasn’t enough, ticketholders can also visit the Fan Village for even more fun activities.

The 7,800-square foot attraction is a premium and relaxing open-air multi-use space that will be home to fan experience activations from co-title sponsors Cathay and HSBC among other partners. The family-friendly area will also have a dedicated kids zone complete with giant inflatables, alongside Hong Kong China Rugby (HKCR) community and sports activities. Food and beverage stands will also be on offer, including three garden lounges and the signature bar of the tournament’s official beer Carlsberg, on top of over 30 concession stands that will operate inside the stadium over Sevens weekend.

The Fan Village will be operational from that start of play to 11PM each day from 28-30 March. Fans won’t miss a second of the action on the pitch either, with beanbag seating and all matches shown live on the big screen inside the Village.

The party atmosphere will hit a new level at the Village with a calendar full of bands and DJs keeping the hits coming across the weekend.

The stage inside the Village will see 15 local bands and six different DJ acts entertaining the crowd over Hong Kong’s biggest party weekend, including some performers who have entertained the crowd in the old stadium like Red Stripes, Helium 3 and Hong Kong’s rugby DJ Ben Cullen. Roaming entertainers and sponsor and tournament mascots, join face painting and stage performances in adding to the spectacle and non-stop enjoyment.

The Village will also be home to several HKCR and event community partnership activations with the Hong Kong Jockey Club’s All About Rugby programme, HSBC’s Try Rugby, Cathay’s Po Leung Kuk Tackling Life, and activities by official charity partner Laureus Sport for Good alongside World Rugby series charity partner ChildFund.

Castore, the recently announced official merchandise partner of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, will debut their retail experience over the weekend, including a flagship store in the Village. Attendees will be able to get their hands on the new world-class Castore range, including replicas, traditional rugby jerseys, performance training wear and a brand-new official Hong Kong Sevens range, as well as a lively South Stand collection.

Fans will be able to grab autographs and selfies with the stars in the Village, including pre-arranged meet and greets with teams, including Hong Kong China men’s and women’s 7s. They will also get a chance to connect some of Hong Kong China Rugby’s Hong Kong Sevens ambassadors, including some of the true legends of the game.

It simply wouldn’t be a Hong Kong Sevens weekend without the presence of the world’s most famous sevens player, Fiji’s Waisale Serevi.

The ‘little magician’ played in Hong Kong no fewer than 16 times, as well as coaching here on a handful of other occasions. He will once again return to the tournament he helped make famous as it moves homes across Hong Kong’s Victoria Harbour from the place Fijians worldwide know as Happy Valley.

It also wouldn’t be a Sevens without a Kiwi counterpart to that Fijian flair, and the Hong Kong Sevens is delighted to once again welcome back former New Zealand Sevens captain and Olympian DJ Forbes. Forbes played 450 matches for New Zealand Sevens, notching an incredible 153 tries to become New Zealand Sevens’ second all-time scoring leader. He was the World Rugby International Sevens Player of the Year in 2008 and a 3-time winner of New Zealand’s Rugby Sevens Player of the Year Award.

The women’s game is not ignored either, with ambassadors including Team GB Olympian and Leicester Tigers star Cecilia Quansah and New Zealand’s dual-code sevens and rugby league international Tyla King, 2023 World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year, both making their Hong Kong Sevens ambassadorial debuts.

Some of the legends of the fifteens game will also be at Kai Tak this year in former World Rugby Player of the Year and 2007 Rugby World Cup winner for South Africa, Schalk Burger, in Hong Kong as part of the Laureus Sport for Good programme.

Joining him are two ex-internationals from the Home Unions in former Scotland international “Big” Jim Hamilton and former England fly half Andy Goode. Two of Hong Kong China’s rugby legends are also engaged as event ambassadors in Christy Cheng Ka-chi and Salom Yiu Kam-shing.

With the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens offering its usual array of rocking rugby, food, drink and music across three unforgettable days – not to mention serving as the opening act at Kai Tak – an unmissable weekend is in store for rugby fans and music lovers this March.
